Program Learning Outcomes - 348

Program learning outcomes outline what Mohawk's graduates need to know and be able to do after they complete this program.

Initially, most program learning outcomes were developed by the Ministry of Training, Colleges, and Universities (MTCU) in consultation with employers and educators. Now, they are reviewed and updated during program review, in consultation with employers, graduates, and current students.

Vocational Standards

The graduate has reliably demonstrated the ability to:

  1. Configure, troubleshoot and test various power systems and subsystems (e.g. generation, transmission, distribution and utilization) to address user needs and industry regulations.
  2. Analyze and resolve various power operating system and subsystem problems (e.g. generation, transmission, distribution and utilization) using problem-solving tools and techniques in compliance with manufacturers' recommendations and industry regulations.
  3. Service and maintain power plant equipment and systems to support and maintain efficient, safe and secure operations.
  4. Disassemble and assemble power systems components according to manufacturers’ recommendations.
  5. Manage project goals, constraints, deliverables, performance criteria, quality control, and resource requirements in a power system operations environment in accordance to industry standards.
  6. Complete all work in accordance with health and safety legislation, industry standards, regulations and safe work practices.
  7. Ensure activities are compliant with relevant legal and regulatory obligations, and industry standards and policies for quality, health, safety, accountability and ethical responsibility.
  8. Develop and apply strategies for personal, career and professional development to enhance work performance and maintain currency with industry.

Essential Employability Skills

All graduates with the following Ontario College credentials, Ontario College Certificate, Ontario College Diploma and Ontario College Advanced Diploma, must be able to reliably demonstrate Essential Employability Skills in a combination of the following 11 skill areas:

  1. Communicate clearly, concisely and correctly in the written, spoken and visual form that fulfills the purpose and meets the needs of the audience.
  2. Respond to written, spoken or visual messages in a manner that ensures effective communication.
  3. Use a variety of thinking skills to anticipate and solve problems.
  4. Locate, select, organize and document information using appropriate technology and information systems.
  5. Analyze, evaluate and apply relevant information from a variety of sources.
  6. Show respect for diverse opinions, values, belief systems and contributions of others.
  7. Interact with others in groups or teams in ways that contribute to effective working relationships and the achievement of goals.
  8. Manage the use of time and other resources to complete projects.
  9. Take responsibility for one's own actions, decisions and consequences.
