Program Learning Outcomes - 622

Program learning outcomes outline what Mohawk's graduates need to know and be able to do after they complete this program.

Initially, most program learning outcomes were developed by the Ministry of Training, Colleges, and Universities (MTCU) in consultation with employers and educators. Now, they are reviewed and updated during program review, in consultation with employers, graduates, and current students.

Vocational Standards

The graduate has reliably demonstrated the ability to:

  1. Support business objectives by leveraging the interdependencies of functional business units including human resources, marketing, finance and accounting.
  2. Conduct research to support strategic and operational decisions.
  3. Deploy strategic planning techniques to ensure competitive advantage in the Trades industry.
  4. Apply relevant project and risk management principles and tools to the management of trade businesses.
  5. Identify opportunities and address challenges in trades’ businesses using creative and innovative approaches.
  6. Apply principles of management to the operation of trade’s business ventures.
  7. Plan, implement and manage marketing of trades-related products or services to foster business growth.
  8. Comply with relevant laws, regulations, policies, ethical principles, and industry practices and standards.
  9. Select and use appropriate software and other technologies to meet business goals.
  10. Interpret financial information using management accounting concepts and apply to strategic decision-making.
  11. Identify and apply discipline specific practices that contribute to the local and global community through cultural diversity, social responsibility, economic commitment and environmental stewardship.

Essential Employability Skills

All graduates with the following Ontario College credentials, Ontario College Certificate, Ontario College Diploma and Ontario College Advanced Diploma, must be able to reliably demonstrate Essential Employability Skills in a combination of the following 11 skill areas:

  1. Communicate clearly, concisely and correctly in the written, spoken and visual form that fulfills the purpose and meets the needs of the audience.
  2. Respond to written, spoken or visual messages in a manner that ensures effective communication.
  3. Execute mathematical operations accurately.
  4. Apply a systematic approach to solve problems.
  5. Use a variety of thinking skills to anticipate and solve problems.
  6. Analyze, evaluate and apply relevant information from a variety of sources.
  7. Show respect for diverse opinions, values, belief systems and contributions of others.
  8. Interact with others in groups or teams in ways that contribute to effective working relationships and the achievement of goals.
  9. Manage the use of time and other resources to complete projects.
  10. Take responsibility for one's own actions, decisions and consequences.
