Program Learning Outcomes - 661

Program learning outcomes outline what Mohawk's graduates need to know and be able to do after they complete this program.

Initially, most program learning outcomes were developed by the Ministry of Training, Colleges, and Universities (MTCU) in consultation with employers and educators. Now, they are reviewed and updated during program review, in consultation with employers, graduates, and current students.

Vocational Standards

The graduate has reliably demonstrated the ability to:

  1. Apply knowledge of the evolution of sustainability principles, economic models, social responsibility, and climate justice to support organizational goals and decision making.
  2. Relate foundational environmental science, including carbon science and energy conservation principles, to sustainability goals and projects.
  3. Apply project management tools and principles, and collaborative skills, to support cross-disciplinary sustainability projects.
  4. Apply change leadership principles, systems thinking, and inclusionary practices frameworks to support strategic change within an organization.
  5. Clearly communicate sustainability and business concepts to diverse audiences orally, in writing, and digitally, using formal reporting, dashboards, and storytelling narratives.
  6. Apply marketing strategies and effective communication to engage stakeholders and promote sustainability practices, initiatives and an organization’s brand.
  7. Support the development and tracking of organizational sustainability strategic plans and metrics that align with overall organizational strategy and regulatory requirements.
  8. Use software, tools, and relevant statistics to collect and analyze quantitative and qualitative data to support strategic and operational decisions.
  9. Support the development of comprehensive reports and documentation, for various audiences, that integrate technical, business and financial data to communicate the sustainability performance, impacts, and regulatory compliance of an organization or business.
  10. Apply sustainability and carbon accounting principles, knowledge of carbon markets and related regulations to identify risks and incentives, and inform organizational policy.
  11. Apply research methods to investigate sustainability opportunities, challenges, and potential solutions.
  12. Assist with sustainability business case development and analysis to support informed decisions with consideration for financial performance.
  13. Develop a plan to support on-going personal sustainability commitments and professional development to remain current in the evolving field of sustainability.

All graduates with the following Ontario College credentials, Ontario College Certificate, Ontario College Diploma and Ontario College Advanced Diploma, must be able to reliably demonstrate Essential Employability Skills in a combination of the following 11 skill areas:
