Program Learning Outcomes - 662

Program learning outcomes outline what Mohawk's graduates need to know and be able to do after they complete this program.

Initially, most program learning outcomes were developed by the Ministry of Training, Colleges, and Universities (MTCU) in consultation with employers and educators. Now, they are reviewed and updated during program review, in consultation with employers, graduates, and current students.

Vocational Standards

The graduate has reliably demonstrated the ability to:

  1. Analyze evolving sustainability principles, economic models, social responsibility, and climate justice to support organizational goals and decision making.
  2. Relate foundational environmental science, including carbon science and energy conservation principles, to sustainability goals and projects.
  3. Use project management tools and principles, and collaborative skills, to plan and coordinate cross-disciplinary sustainability projects.
  4. Use change leadership principles, systems thinking, and inclusionary practices to foster a culture of sustainability, support change, and promote organizational advancement on social and environmental issues.
  5. Clearly communicate complex sustainability and business concepts to diverse audiences orally, in writing, and digitally, using formal reporting, dashboards, and storytelling narratives.
  6. Use marketing strategies, facilitation techniques, and effective communication to engage internal and external stakeholders on sustainability initiatives, and to support an organization’s brand.
  7. Develop, track, and evaluate organizational sustainability strategic plans and metrics that align with overall organizational strategy and regulatory requirements.
  8. Use software, tools, and relevant statistics to collect, analyze and interpret quantitative and qualitative data to support strategic and operational decisions.
  9. Prepare and present comprehensive reports and documentation, for various audiences, that integrate and translates technical, business and financial data to communicate the sustainability performance and impacts, as well as the regulatory compliance of an organization or business.
  10. Apply sustainability and carbon accounting principles, knowledge of carbon markets and related regulations to identify risks and incentives, and develop organizational policy.
  11. Apply research methods, systems thinking, and problem-solving frameworks to design and implement research projects.
  12. Analyze and support development of sustainability business cases to inform decisions with consideration for financial performance.
  13. Develop and present a plan to support on-going personal sustainability commitments and professional development to remain current in the evolving field of sustainability.

Essential Employability Skills

All graduates with the following Ontario College credentials, Ontario College Certificate, Ontario College Diploma and Ontario College Advanced Diploma, must be able to reliably demonstrate Essential Employability Skills in a combination of the following 11 skill areas:
